Live sign linking

Share text between signs using the physical control box.

  1. Open a matrix sign's ground controller. Select the correct face on a matrix gantry.
  2. Choose Link signs.
  3. Select the target on the map or searchable list, then choose its face. The map distinguishes your cabinet, the selected target and linked members.
  4. Choose Link selected face.
  5. Return to the editor. SHARED MESSAGE confirms that text edits affect the linked targets.

No administrator-authored presets are required. Linking is an operational cabinet action, not a signadmin control. It requires cabinet, operate and link permissions under your configured policy.

If neither face is linked, your local face supplies the initial text. If one already belongs to a group, that group's text is used. Two different groups are not merged automatically; unlink the relevant target first.

What is shared?

Shared content includes three text lines, alignment and message cycles. The common limit is 20 characters per line. Lane heads cannot join these text groups.

Symbols, directional arrows, warning lights, power and hardware damage remain individual. Linking does not repair or switch on a sign. A damaged or powered-off member still receives intended text for when it can display again.

Unlink this face keeps its current content rather than restoring an older message.

Sync forward and reverse text

The main matrix-gantry control page shows whether both sides are independent or linked. Enable sync using the explicitly named Forward/Reverse source. If a face is already grouped, group text takes precedence. Faces in different groups must be unlinked before enabling side sync.

While side sync is enabled, editing either face updates both; a group membership on one face effectively includes both faces. Directional symbols never mirror automatically.

Unlink sides keeps both current messages. Only the explicitly stored membership face remains in its group. Unlinking a sign from a group while its sides are synchronized removes the group relationship but leaves its two sides sharing text until side sync is turned off.

Saved state and competing edits

Links and shared content persist with placement data across restart. Cycle timing follows the stored origin and server clock. Late joiners receive current state.

The latest accepted server write wins; stale revisions are rejected rather than silently overwriting a newer edit. Refresh after a conflict and check the shared-message indicator before editing again.

Deleting a sign removes its memberships. Unlink and disable side sync before changing a structure. By default, groups and members are limited to 64 each. This feature coordinates displays; it does not control NPC vehicles.
